I just joined up, I got a 1977 F-150 4wd, the motor shot, so I picked up a 1982 F-150 and swapped the engine tranny and xfer case in...I'm realizing now this is gonna take some time to get to work. The xfer case sits to low and the front drive shaft won't mounth without hitting the cross member. Are the trannys different in these trucks, I believe they are both C6's? If I find a xfer case for a '77 can I bolt it up instead so it will clear...I really wanna get this finished up, I swapped it out and got it running in high school 4 years ago but with college and my camaro I keep getting sidetracked lol...
I have also thought about building a new tubed crossmember but still a little unsure on it.
I don't know if they are the same tranny's for sure or not. If your only problem is the crossmember and everything else is done correctly I would do just what you said and build a new one.
I could get rid of that camaro for you. Park it in front of my highboy. I have always been wanting to drive over something, or at least try. LOL I had to say it, I'm all ford.
Yeah, mbolte you may just wanna keep that ccca-maro stuff to yourself on here. But happy to hear you got yourself kick-butt pick'em up truck. Ford rocks it out on this site, Dude!! But, anyways you can tell if you have a c4 or c6 by the shape of the pan, once read that a c6 is shaped more like the state of Utah and c4 is more square shaped. Not totally sure but I think that the c6 was used from '76-'96, Just have to double check on that. Probably not much help, but I tried.
Thanks for the replies guys, went and looked today and the tranny is a C6 I don't remember what tranny was in it before but it was a 77 with a 400 and an auto....So is it the xfer case that is different? Currently the drivers side of the case is rubbing the frame rail and the yoke is way to low to get around the cross member. I'm thinking if the trannys are the same I can get the right case for a 77 and solve my problems?

Reason: its a c6
In 1978, Ford offered the C6 for the first time with the 302 in F100/150's, but many of these trucks still used the C4. It all depended on the application.
Ford confusion: Thru 1978, Ford used the letter G on all Warranty Plates for ALL A/T's on F100/350's.
One had to know which trans came with what engine.
1979 was the first year that the letter K was used to denote a C6.
Thanks! The truck is an original 400, and I used the original converter from the old transmission so it must be a C6. The stock xfer case bolted to frame mount, were the xfer cases different from the 73-79 and the 80+ models?
