As far as the type of oil. I would use basic 90 weight gear oil and there is usually a plug on the drivers side of most manual transmissions that you take out to check the level. when the oil is level with the plug hole or it just barely drips out of the hole you know it is full. The plug sometimes may look like a large bolt almost halfway up the side of the trans housing or may look like the plug in many rear ends with the square dimple in the midde a 3/8s extension will fit. I know it should use 90w because my father was a professional mechanic since the late sixties and he told me almost every manual trans up until the eighties took regular 90w gear oil. Hope this helps.

Also the rear seal should not be a big challenge. After you drain the oil remove the driveshaft. Then you could can use a very thin screwdriver or something similar to work the seal away from the tail housing. Sometimes you have to use a few light taps from a hammer to do this but above all else be careful not to damage your tail housing doing this. If you are not very mechanical you may want someone to help you. When putting the new seal in you want it to go in nice and straight as to not damage the seal. I usually get it started with a few very light taps from a small hammer alternating from side to side then use a big socket or something that buts against the metal surrounding the seal to tap it the rest of the way in. I hope this makes sense and helps.
