Adding tie-downs
My 78 F250 has zero tie-downs. I'm looking to have some traditional two-end hooks added to the outside of the bed (3 each side), to the tailgate (2), and some loop tie-downs to the inside of the bed (4 each side, 2 on each end of the wheel wells) to help secure internal loads. How is this usually done? I want them to be as strong as if they were factory. I myself won't do the work, but farm it out to a welder. I would think that just welding them to the body w/o any internal support wouldn't be too good. Any ideas or comments welcome.

HI, when they came from the dealer installed at the top of the box, they were put on the same as the mirrors, they overdrilled the hole to about 3/8ths then installed a 1/4" gripsert in the hole. There was nothing installed in the back for extra strength and it you put too much pressure on them they would dent the top of the box where they mounted. Hope thats what you were asking.
