Hey guys. ive been having some problems with my truck for a while now... Its a 1986 F150 5.0 EFI 4x2. and i have been hearing a ticking noise and the truck doesnt run like its supposed to, i was wondering if the ticking could be the cause of it.
heres a picture of what i thinks causing the ticking noise
could be man... sounds like something electrical arcing to me... and there at the end it sounded like you got the mic closer to whatever was making the ticking sound..
yeah, its that relay, or whatever it is making the sound. idk what exactly its doing, and my dad replaced the cylinder that it connects to once with one off of another truck but it didnt seem to fix anything. im at wits end dude...

know the feeling... my truck pushes me to that point all the time... sometimes its just better to let the guys at the shops stress over it to figure it out...
Man that sounds awful loud to be electric but hey video sound tracks can be decieving. Try putting a half quart of Marvels Mystery oil in the crankcase just incase it is a valve or lifter. Good thing to do with these old trucks anyway it will keep your rings from sticking and valves free.
jmeyer, hes active in the SC chat thread and said hed take a look at it. Vort, marvel mystery oil didnt do a thing, ive tried that, and big red, the spark plug wires are less than a year old. im positive the ticking is coming from the picture is showing (what is it btw?)
the only reason i asked is because about a month after i put new wires on my 81 one of my wires developed a ticking noise.it took me a few minutes to find it,the ticking always sounds like it's coming from some whee else.with the engine running move your plug wires around and see if it stops.you could also fire the engine up when it's dark out and without any lights see if you can see any arcing.
