351m Timing

I want to check the timing on my motor but I had a few questions...
1. What is the base timing from the factory?
2. Is the front cylinder on the passenger or driver side cylinder #1?
3. Do I need to disconnect the vacummn advance before changing the timing?

I've never messed with timing on a carbureted engine so I'm a little unsure.. Thanks in advance for the help guys! - Bobby
