I have a 65 f-100 with a 71' 351c and (c6) I think, and a 81 bronco with a 351w with tranny and married transfercase. I haven't got to look under the bronco completely yet and have had issues with my f-100 tranny not going into reverse.
I was wondering if I could use the tranny from my bronco in my truck if I switched out the rear nipple?
And What would you recomend the 351c(thats in the truck now) or the 351w(from the bronco)? Which would be the best to build up for my truck, and would they interchangeble while I build up the other?
Thanks SLACK
65' f100 (Ldy Luc) my first love
81 bronco just sumthin to fool around with, using for parts
Thanks guys, I know I could have probably figured it out myself but I wanted to make sure before I dismembered the bronco. So, if I take out both tranny's and switch the nipples I should be ok, as long as the bell housing match? Cool.
As for the truck's motor, it was originally built as a street rod. Its a 65' style side with fat wide tires in the rear, kinda cali cruiser / rat rod. It currently has the 351c in it but the trans isnt working proplerly (wont find any gears), it wasnt finding reverse for awhile and after sitting for a couple years it just doesnt seem right going forward either.
And the bronco has a 351w and trans that work, so I wanted to get my truck on the road by switching things out until I get the current set-up fixed.
Anyways thanks again guys I'll have pics of the truck up soon I hope, its on cardomain.com now same user name.
I just wikid ford bell housing patterns. I also have a ford parts interchange book that would confirm it.
The 351/400M engines are "cleaveland type" engines. They utlize the 429/460 bellhousing. I know jowilker is correct in my mind also. I instinctivly jumped to the M engines and gave you bad advice.
Your cleaveland can use the windsor bellhousing. If its a cleaveland. Alot of ford dealers told people that they were getting a cleaveland engine in the later 70s. Realy it was just a smoged out M engine.
I disagree with flip, I believe both bells are the same for the C & the W. You can verify, it should be flat top and bolts about 5" apart.
The M or 460 is flat top and bolts are 8" apart so if I'm off a 1/2" don't get excited.
FE is round top. Those are the 3 Ford bell designs.

Missing a few patterns there.
5 bolt small block, Y block, early OHV six, flathead 8, flathead 6, Falcon six, MEL, and modular engines.
Not to mention a myriad of small industrial engine patterns.
