Well, I seem to recall homework at that age as being pretty simple, complete two pages of math, write a poem or two, read the science book. Prepare your kids for the real world, don't teach them that if they cry they won't have to do something. Sometimes you have to work overtime, its part of life. You'd think being lawyers they would understand that.

Personally I think two things: first of all, some lawyers are the product of the devil and are hell-bent to ruin the world. Secondly, I beleive regular homework serves a dual purpose in that it shows the parent how the child is doing in school on a daily basis, and also builds THE single most important quality in any human being and that is work ethic. Anyone who has worked with a modern twenty-something knows full well how poor modern work ethics are in today's society. Teaching your kids that there is a way around the rules and a shortcut to success will ensure that you get to raise not only your kids, but very likely their kids as well...

What is the world coming to???? Stupid spoiled kids and stupid parents, I struggled when i was a kid with math and reading but my folks pushed and pushed me and somtimes i was up till midnight finishing my home work, but i finished it and if i was wrong, at least i learned from my mistakes. Who likes homework, but the extra practice was well worth it in my case!

If you don't practice it, then you pretty much won't learn it. So when are they supposed to do the work, in class only? Or do they just lecture on it and hope the kids get it? Not likely to do well that way...

The thing is when I was a kid I just did my homework. I would have to do a page of math problems and when I was finished my mom would look at it, and then I could go play.

These days, teachers are giving more homework these days, and at a younger age, and often its homework that involves parents basically teaching the child.

Part of the reason is all the PC crap they're forced to teach leaves them less time for things like spelling and multiplication tables. Larger class sizes doesn't help either, teachers spend more time trying to keep order.

Ny neices are constantly hitting me up for money. Their class has a little orphan boy in Africa who needs shoes and toys, they need to sell chocolate for their gym uniforms, and there's always a field trip to go learn about some diverse culture somewhere.

Thinks like reading and math are left to the parents.

It's the most idiotic thing I've ever read. I feel real sorry for my daughter some times as she always has three (3) hours of homework 4 nights a week. She's taking all college prep calsses and she's chasing an honors diploma.

Additionally she plays softball all the damned time. The deal is very simple. Any grades below a C will keep her off the field.

She's nearly 16 years of age and I believe that she will grow up to be a driven, hard working and highly educated professional.

Homework sucks but it serves a great purpose if used correctly.

Think those "lawyers" would have ever been lawyers if they didn't do their homework? I highly doubt it.

And, as I recall, I don't think it was ever "homework". It was more of an "assignment" that best be completed by the next class. Whether it was completed in class, after class, at home, or, in the cafeteria the next morning, it better be done.
