What is the best way to install the pilot bushing for a ZF tranny into a 460? I have done the brass hammer method before on other trannys but I got people telling me now to freeze the bushing first for the ZF. Also, do I use threadlocker or threadsealer on the flywheel bolts for a ZF?
I don't think all that my have done the ZF thing. Use thread locker on the bolts if you want, it can't hurt anything (torqued properly I've never had a flywheel bolt come loose). Freezing the bushing and then appling some heat to the center of the flywheel can't hurt anything either, as long as the flyheel is not on the crank when you install the bushing.
Actually, the pilot pocket IS in the crank, not the flywheel. As far as installing the pilot, are you using a bearing or bushing? I did a ZF swap from a C6 behind my 460, and found that there are several possible variations in pilot O.D. Make sure you have the right one, or you'll never get it in. My 460 has a stepped pilot pocket that can take different size bushings/bearings. Just some food for thought.
