Plug ??

The block heater plug on my 04 F250 has a splice right next to the plug and whenever i plug it in it shocks the living bejesus out of me... Can i replace just the end or does the whole lead have to be replaced? I want it to be right and i want to fix it once and have it be right the first time!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Rob

Prob just cut the bad part off and splice in a new one. Draws a lot of amps, so mack sure you use a HD plug. SOLDER the wires together and use a weather-proof insulating electrical tape on each lead. If you can't solder, go buy a new block heater cord.

If you go to a dealer for the cord, they run about $100. I just got one off of ebay for a $23 including shipping.

I read in a recent post that you could buy the cord at O'Reilly Auto Parts for around $30. I think the dealership price is around $100. If you replace just the end make sure that it's water tight otherwise you will create a short-circuit when it's plugged in.

Check out the following link for info on the heater cord:

It has been posted in the past that the cords are also available at quite a savings at the I/H dealers.

I/H is short of International Harvester; which in the mid-90s became International/Navistar when the truck/engine division separated from the agricultural division. This should help anyone find an International/Navistar dealership in North America:

International Truck and Engine Corporation

On the 6.0L...Yes; International calls it the VT365 (or is it 365VT?). Both names describe the exact same engine...though the Ford version is something like 50 Hp higher than the I/H version...go figure. All the filters packaged/labled International/Navistar are made by Racor...the same company that packages for FoMoCo/Motorcraft. I've never purchased anything other than filters from my local I/H dealer. If you buy parts/filters from I/H they may want a VIN number when ordering parts; I found if you have the p/n in hand and repeatedly tell them that's what your looking for on a VT365, you will get the part your chasing. I think what it boils down to someone needs a VIN and/or Make/Model to look it up in the computer.
