sorry for this as it is wayyyyy off topic but kinda on as well.
hey me and the missus saw a deal for a 1948 hudson super six i think. the body looks to be in good shape the motor is solid but a cheby so yeah i want it out and get a real engine in there my question to you those who may know is what area's should i look at on the thing to determine if it is worth my 3k. yeah it is only 3,000 dollars with working engin tranny and 99% of it's chrome. i live in a dry desert but very salty "the imperial valley" and the owner admited that it had been worked on in mexico *no offence to the hispanics and mexicans* in mexicalli. if this was a ford truck i would know and not need to ask but i have heard that alot of the "earlier" vehicles suffered from poor metal quality and would cancer out from costly and hidden areas.
thank you for any advice.
btw this car would be for the wife. i just want she who holds the money to be happy so i can get on with the real important stuff like the rebuild for my engine thanks again and please like my old family saying goes "not in the face huh?"
Hi the big question is does She like it?? and will it do what you want (make her happy) then it's worth the effort 3 grand?? you cant buy a toyota for that that has any soul .go for it !! and there is nothing wrong running a chev mill it's cheep and anyone can fixit( they need that)save the old iron have fun what else is there to life Eh!! and it only has to be worth it to YOU !!
If the motor is original it is NOT a chebby. Hudson made their own motors and they were at the top of the heal when it came to performance. They owned the race track until the OHV V-8s appeared.
Well if she likes the body style, and can do without some of the creature comforts of the cars today ! and I still lived out in SoCal..Chevy or not..I'd buy it...As long as the motor and trans coversion was done in a clean manner.. As many chevy's that are running around out there..I'am suprised Dunkin Donuts doesnt carry tune-up parts for them with there coffee and donut sales.. JMO
ahhh... i looked at it alot closer it was a bondo job not a good one all the chrome was toast and too much work.
yeah she loved the body style but not the work for it. now i got her looking at other styles too more available ones at that.
yes i have seen cars but that was a what 52 or 54 hornet with step down body. this other one was the symphonic styling circa 1947. not really the rat rod looking kind either.
oh well the guy sold it any way. now back to the important work my truck ....
and ps i don't mind chevy engines just in my experience the ford ones have a better track record .
That Hudson six cyl engine was a very durable piece of machinery. They used a nickel alloy block that seems to last forever. Makes me wonder why it was ever pulled out of that car.
