My cruise control started acting up yesterday while pulling my travel trailer across Texas.. On level turf going about 60-65 it would kick off.. I'd start it back up again, go a few miles and it would shut down again.. Kept doing this all day..Has never done anything like this before..
Had the truck into a Stealership about a month ago for the recall and got a new wiring harness put on it for the cruise and it has worked fine since until Yesterday... Do any of the gurus here have any idea what's causing this and how to fix it?
Mine quit working a couple years ago and it was the pressure switch on the brake master leaking fluid. I think that might be the same thing the recall is for, not positive though. Mine also quit when my RABS quit working, but the speedo and odo also quit when that went out. I've read that if any of the 3 brake lights burn out that CC won't work. Those are the 3 things I can think of.
Also check wiring and bulbs to trailer brake lights. Any issue with brake lighting can make the cruise control kick off. We had a burned out center stop light (blocked by the topper anyway...), and the cruise would work fine, until you hit the turn signal; since the rear turn signals and brake lights are the same filaments, it creates some funky backflow thru the brake light switch, and cuts off the cruise. Your trailer wiring might be shorting when you hit bumps or the like.
I checked all the brake lights and they are fine.. Drove it today without the trailer in tow and it turned off again so it's not the trailer wiring......
952X4, I just got that recall. I didn't know what is was they wanted to replace. Now, after reading this, I don't want to take it in. Just exactly what is the recall?
The recall is to replace a wiring harness near by the brake master cylinder that supposably could start a fire because of leaking brake fluid.. The Tech at the Stealership who replaced mine said they see evidence of fluid leakage in about 10% of the ones they replace.. Mine showed no evidence of leaking. I wish I had it back.
IIRC, that recall work entailed putting in an inline fuse holder and fuse in the wiring up near the connector on the front of the M/C. Might wanna check that the fuse is snug in the holder.
Pull the RABS out of the rear diff and clean off the crud. It's magnetic an accumulates particles that can reduce the signal output.
It usually shows up at higher speeds.
Check the wire harness socket & pins for corrosion ect.
I just got that recall today also. I have never had one issue with my cruise and am wondering if I should take it in. What do you guys think? I thought I read a couple issues on here lately with the new harness.

X2, I also have read that ppl has having issues with the new harness and never with the original after some brief of time. So I would recommend not to take it.
I think I will pass on the recall. I'll keep the recall notice in my books and if I notice anything later I guess I will deal with it then.
Thanks roentgeep.
I only recommend to check frequently the switch for ANY leaks.
BTW, reading about this topic, some people says that the harness ALWAYS has (hot) current and others mention that only with the key ON. Others say that in gassers is where always is HOT. so here Im confused. I would like to hear some of my masters chime in here.
Also mention that the brake fluid does not ingite by itself, is the short caused by it, that produces hot-fire in the harness.
Other thing I have read is that the new harness has fuses, some mention one and others mention two, here Im confused again, and my last question, what is the value of that FUSES? Maybe would be good idea to add a FUSE in the OEM harness, knowing that is working well and preventing just in case.
Where do I keep an eye out for leaks?? Is it by the master cylinder somewhere? I'll bump up here if nothing else and maybe someone smarter than me can tell us any of there good ideas.
Roentgeep wants his masters to chime in. I will say I do to. Thanks guys
