Well Monday is my normal day off but I normally go in to work and get some overtime. At ZERO dark thirty I left and stopped by the ATM. While getting some cash I hear my truck shut off! After some cranking and praying I faced the reality of my truck is not going to restart! I check the tach to see if it is bouncing, no bounce. I push it in to a parking spot and walk home (2+miles). I wait till advanced opens and get a CPS. I throw the CPS at it and get a bouncing tach but no start and no smoke (rut row Raggy)! I carry a spare IDM so I change it out and what do ya know?! It starts!!! If it werent for this site I would have been down for atleast 2+ days and brazillion dollars (GWB)!
I just wanted to thank everyone on this site for keeping me informed about my truck.
I spose I will go to the junkyard later in the week and get another IDM for a spare. Well time to get some work done.
Thanks again!
IAN
Ian, what a feeling to have the truck shut off and not restart. This site is amazing for helping people.
About a year ago I stopped at a friends house. I tried to start the truck to leave and it wouldn't start. I went to Napa for a CPS, installed it and viola it ran. I would have never known how to fix it if it had not been for " MY FTE FAMILY".

I know what you mean. If it was not for this site, I would have sold the truck long ago! I don't mind doing "unscheduled maintenance" from time to time but I would have never been able to do it myself w/o FTE!
The IDM I put in is 120V and my other one was 140V. It may be in my head but the truck seems sluggish now. Oh well, I will find another 100V and put another resistor in.
If it was a 140v IDM that you did yourself, for the heck of it I'd check to make sure that resistor is still in place like it should be.
IDM's really rarely just go out. I have heard of them creating problems when they get full of water, but it's rare they just stop working and shut down the truck...

I am with you on that one! I was powered by Budweiser when I modded it. I will check it out when I get the chance, thanks!

hmmm- when they get un-full of water, would the truck start again?? lol, maybe that's what i did...crazy flooding down here with the nor'easter, and my truck plowed through the rivers, i mean roads, like it was her business...and then refused to start for the next three days. like nothing, no clicks, no cranking. and then today she fired right up and ran beautifully. go figure.

I have heard from a lot of guys that took the cover off, dumped the water out, let it dry for several days, maybe sprayed some WD-40 on everything and it was good to go.
If you think you got yours flooded, I'd take it apart and dry it out good, then re-seal it up with good gray Ford silicone. They can get water in there w/o fording rivers, so I'd be cautious on your end.
Spare IDM, I never thought of that. What do they run at the 'junk' yards?
I have bought several and I have paid $35-$50. Just make sure when you pull it to give it a good shake. Also let them know it is a IDM not a PCM. If they think it is a "brain" they may/will charge more.
