Question 300 in a fox body mustang ????

Is it possible to put a 300 in a 89 fox body mustang ? can you bolt the 300 to a t5 trans ? motor mounts ? Im just wondering because my old 302 is giving me troubles and i have to pull her out and i like the 300 better then the 302.

Not 100% positive but I don't think that the 300 will fit in a FoX body engine bay without serious modifications. The 300 will bolt up to the T-5 (same bolt pattern as the "small block" 8s, but the you'll be pushing that T-5 to it's limit with the torque that the 300 puts out.

Check with www.fordsix.com to make sure, they'll know more about trying it, most likely.

The 302 makes more torque at a slightly higher rpm than the 300, so the T5 isn't your issue. You may have to bash the firewall and reconfigure the radiator and accessory drives. Hood clearance and an oil pan will be issues.

Lots of work. You could swap the 302, and starting on Friday PM drive it to work on Monday after a Sunday morning shake-down run. Try to swap the 300 in there, it may never see the road again.

jmo, ymmv.

Still wish they would have dual cammed it and used it in todays trucks. And then turboed it instead of using the 5.4 and 6.8 in the S/D's.

79-80 had a 3.3[250] I6. I had 1 of them. when I pulled the 6 to put in the 302, I had to change the motor mount assy struts and all. the 4, and the 8 take the same one. the 6 has the motor mount perches 18" apart. if it will clear the radiator, use that mount set up, and you should be ok. I have a friend with a 300 in a maverick. tight squeeze, but it's in there

You'll need some stiffer front springs as the 300 is a bit heavier than the 302.

A 3.3L is a 200 I-6, not a 250 I-6. 250's (4.1L) were not installed in any Fox body.

Fox bodied 1978/83 Fairmont/Zephyr's had 200's, as did 1979/83 Mustangs/Capri's, 1981/82 Granada's, 1983 (midsized) LTD's.

The last year for the 200 was 1983. The last car to have a 250 I-6 was the 1980 Granada, which is not a Fox body.

A Maverick/Comet engine bay is much larger than any Fox body, which was introduced in 1978.

thanks bill. no wonder the car was so gutless with the 6 in it. I thought it was bigger than it was.
