So im tearing a 5 lug D44 front apart for rebuild. I took the castle nut off the top balljoint and it looks like the c is threaded? Some sort of thing is threaded into it. Do i have to take whatever that is out to get the knuckle off? Or do i just need to beat on it until it pops off?
Well quite a few wacks with the 5lber got the knuckles off. Everyone always told me that the balljoints were a pain to get out of the knuckle. Well i took the snap rings off and about 3 wacks each and they were off.
they can be a royal bitch if they are really corroded in there and seized in there...when i did the ball joints in mine i used a 50 ton hyd. press...so if they were really corroded and seized in there, that sure didnt last long LOL...put em back in that way too, nice and straight no damage to the ball joints or knuckles, worked out very nice
