Were you trying to use the same avatar as you had before Hank?
Under your "edit avatar", do you have the button clicked that says "Use Custom Avatar"?
After you upload an image, do you hit the "save changes" button at the bottom?
The only other thing is to make sure your image is 120x120 or less and under 64KB in size.
Other than that, I'm guessing Adrian or Tim will have to reset something.
