I have an '82 F250 standard heater with no AC. I need to replace the heater core. I know it comes out the motor compartment side, unlike the AC heater core that comes out inside of the cab.
Facing the firewall from outside front of truck, there is a bolt in the upper left hand corner area of heater core plastic housing. It appears to me that the only way to get to this is to remove remove the wiper arms, radio antennea, and cowling to get at it.
Is this the case?
Thanks
Yes. And you might have trouble getting the cowl off with the hood in the way. (Whenever I've needed to remove the cowl, I end up pulling the hood first 'cause I'm worried about scraping the paint/bending it to hell.) When I put the heater core back, I didn't bother with that bolt.
Thanks for the info. I changed the core out tonight. I too didn't put the nut back on that bolt. I just left the bolt out like you did. I could hear the nut drop off the end behind the cowling when I took the bolt out.
Why didn't Ford just use a threaded locking retainer ring with no nut like the bolt down below it? It makes no sense to have done this.
Upside is I now have great heat with no leak and vapor in the cab.
Heater core housing still seems pretty tight even with that one bolt missing.
