head gaskets finally

They are replacing the head gaskets and putting ARP head studs in it. I don't know how to post pics or i would put the ones I took today of the body completely off the chassis.

I would love to see that big body lifted over the chassis. Seems like quite a job to lift it...

Here what mine looked like when they took the motor out for an oil leak.

Wow. I wonder how many hours is required to do this?
At a minimum, they would have to discharge the A/C system to disconnect compressor from hoses. I also wonder where they lift the body from...must be outside of frame rails.

I've heard on the F250/350 6.0's that it takes about 3-4 hours. The 6.4's are supposed to be even easier.

Not as long as I thought. Dropped truck off Monday morning and it was done Thursday evening. I didn't pick it up till today. They disconnect alot of stuff, pwr steering ,a/c,steering shaft, radiator hoses, all electrical connectors along with stuff I am missing I am sure ,also had to take rear capt seats out and rear seat and lift carpet up to get to all the body bolts.

I'm surprised they went to that extent to do the HGs. You can do it with the body on...although it's a bit tedious but in the end less time consuming.

They take off the running boards and lift it on the pinch welds with the hoist.

Well to get the arp head studs on and the heads over them and on the truck they said they needed to pull the body so , I had no problem with it since he is the same tech that always works on it. Plus he said to get them cranked down to the proper torque which was something like 250 ftlbs much easier body off. Truck runs great and everything works like it did before they pulled the body off,

I'm definitely not doubting it's easier that way. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the HG job? I'm looking to get mine done soon and don't feel like digging in myself.

Truck was still under warranty and the tech said if i wanted them to never leak again to buy the ARP head studs and they would put them in, So the studs were like $480.00 and labor was still covered under warranty but that will be gone in about 1200 miles.

I asked my dealer about upgrading to ARP head studs and better head gaskets and they said they would do it but after it was done it would void the rest of my warranty. So I let them replace with OE.

I would have gone that route too,but only have 1200 miles left on warranty so just trying to prevent it from happening again,we shall see.

Now when your warr, is out it will cost you a bit of cash to do. You should have had them just do it and save your self 2000 or more.
I've done a few already. and if you run a chip like some do and I'm one of them you will be doing it again.
And ARP says 265ft/lb on the tork, for those of you that have them or that are going to do them, tork to 285ft/lb and you may not have to re-do them.
Have seen more than I can remember come back for that reason.

The guys that took of the body off, Don't know why you did that on the Excursion. It is so much faster just to pull the motor, On the 250/350 its about the same, Just more chance to F something up especially on the Excur, But do it on the Excursion!!!! You must have had some time to kill.

Or some money to make...

Pdombrowski, if I were you I would've found a dealer willing to install the studs under warranty otherwise who knows how long the OE will last...
