new to the site. just got 1964 f-250 2wd 68000 original miles. according to what i have found, the engine is a 262, it is a manual trans. from what parts guys tell me, their catalogs show that this engine should have a holley carb,but it doesnt. the carb kit that works shows it should fit a 240. i rebuilt the carb and it runs good,but fuel pump leaks. i removed pump and took to parts store,the pumps they show are either a pump with a canister filter or a pump that is 2 halves bolted together which looks like it could be rebuilt. my pump is neither,it is factory pressed or crimped together.it is a carter pump, i called carter and gave them 3 different numbers off pump,they could not find such a fuel pump and they no longer make a pump for this application. seems i cannot find what i want.talked to original owner and he said he has always had trouble getting parts for engine,most parts guys tell him ford didnt put this engine in that truck. any suggestions? thanks
First & foremost welcome aboard: I recommend two options one taking the pump to a Napa parts store and try to get them to run it thru there books and not on a computer to determine type pump needing for a 262; also hopefully "Number dummy " will respond and give you the oem part number for a 262 motor guel pump. I personnely I'm not fiimilair with that engine. Also if no respond here I suggest you try starting a thread under the specfic type engine forum on this web site.
Sorry not real answer; but just some thought.
Again welcome;
thanks for everyones suggestions. i am still trying to find correct pump,dropped it off at parts supplier and he is trying some new avenues on getting what i need. this pump is not rebuildable you cant take it apart,lines and hoses look factory with factory attaching hardware i along with several others are puzzled. i may have to get a pump that is available ,but not exact, and reroute lines. again, thanks

The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code: 1961/64 262 = B
1964 262: Some B/F600's, C550/600's came with a Holley carb.
All F100/250's, most F600 & C550/600's came with Ford (Auto-Lite) carbs.
