Anyone have the width of the Expy roof rack. I'd like to see if it'll fit my Excursion.

Thank ye mucho!

Pre-2003 Roof rack width

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Sep-02 AT 06:55 PM (EST)]Monsta, mine measures 41.75" center to center
Let me know if you need the length, but I'm sure the Excursion is plenty long enough

Thanks Petrol!

The Excursion is about 2 inches longer (wider)...Too bad...I prefer the Expy cross bars.

Thanks again!

Perhaps something cold still be done . . . I had mine off again last weekend (I find it much easier to wax the truck with the cross bars removed) and 'disassembled' them to repaint the ovalized tubes which had gotten rather faded from the sun exposure. I haven't checked to see what type / size of cross bar tube Ford uses for the excursion, but you may be able to make it work out.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but my guess is that the Excursion cross bars sit to low (close to the roof) for your taste, at least that would be the case for me. In fact, that is what would render them pretty much usless for the purposes that I use my roof rack for (holding snowboards) because of this insuffient roof clearance. I know that was an attempt by Ford to keep the Excursion to supposed 'garageable height but really . . . (see DebnKev , just kidding)

maybe I need a couple to keep me straight sometimes

Hmmm...good thought. Swap the risers! I'll take a gander an an Expy more closely next time I see one parked. My cross tubes are oval and about 2" wide and yes, they sit ON TOP of the darn roof! (Well, not now as I keep them off the truck...)

Poor DebnKev...mine doesn't fit either but I knew it before hand...wasn't a huge concern. Even if it did fit, one of the vehicle has to sit outside as you wouldn't be able to open the doors fully.
