Last week I replaced the vehicle speed sensor on my truck, speedo/odometer didn’t work, O/D light blinked, ABS light on. The lights are still on and the speedo/odometer still don’t work<?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t202 path="m,l,21600r21600,l21600,xe" o:spt="202" coordsize="21600,21600"> <v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><V</v:shapetype><v:shape id=_x0000_s1027 style="MARGIN-TOP: 187.75pt; Z-INDEX: -1; MARGIN-LEFT: 396pt; WIDTH: 315pt; POSITION: absolute; HEIGHT: 135pt; mso-position-horizontal-relative: text; mso-position-vertical-relative: text" type="#_x0000_t75" wrapcoords="-53 0 -53 21457 21600 21457 21600 0 -53 0"><v:imagedata o:title="" src="file:///C:\Users\Desktop\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtml1\01\cl ip_image002.png"></v:imagedata><?xml:namespace prefix = w ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com</w:wrap></v:shape>. Right before the issues started I had the dash apart to install a set of air horns (they are on a separate switch, so I didn’t splice into anything), but is it possible a wire or such came loose while I had the dash apart or is there something else I can look for.
<O</O Ideas are always appreciated, thanks in advance.
After I read my post, I realized I forgot to mention that I had also tightened the 2 bolts on the bracket for the shifter (they were really loose), I don't know if that matters, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

In regards to the dash, I don't know if I can describe it correctly, but here it goes. Basically it was only the one piece of molding that goes around the instrument cluster and the radio, and the plastic on the steering column.
As far as checking for codes, no I don't have anything yet, but I'm starting my "Christmas List" and am going to read some of the posts regarding suggestions for a code reader.
Yep, AE is a great thing to add to your Christmas list. Clay can help you out with that... that is where I got mine from. sales@riffraffdiesel.com It can read codes, change speedo for tire sizes, and do countless other things like onboard tests.
So did the speedo stop working after you messed with the dash? I wouldn't think that would mess with anything if you just took that one piece off. Did you get your 4x4 switch hooked back up? I don't think that would cause it though...
Check your speed sensor, pull it out in the rear diff, look it over and make sure it isn't covered in metal shavings and it looks ok. The front ones are a little harder to check. You have to pull the wheel off and the brakes. But you can check the connection - they are right behind the inner fender liner to the rear of the truck (where you would put mudflaps on the front) right behind that fender liner. It is attached to it on the back. Easy to see. Make sure it is still connected???
Yes, the speedo stopped working after I had the dash apart. As for the connections for the two front sensors, I'm hoping to check them today and go from there.
Is there any way I could test the new VSS I put in to see if it is faulty? (just and idea)
Time for an update (the truck was in storage for the worst of winter here). I have replaced the VSS (and the rear differential fluid), I do not have 4 wheel ABS so that rules out the front ABS sensors. I looked around the truck and tightened a few loose grounds. I was under the truck looking and saw a little corrosion on the plug to the TR sensor and cleaned that. After cleaning it I had speedometer and the O/D light went off but not the ABS light, so I pulled the plug again cleaned it some more plugged it back in and now no speedometer, O/D light blinks again, and ABS light still on. Could the TR sensor be bad?
I was having the same problem and I tried changing out the TSS (turbine shaft sensor)and the OSS (output shaft sensor) which are both on the trans. They are both the same part number so you only need one. I will say this before you buy one recheck the ground wires because that is what mine was. It was frustrating because it took about a month to finally figure it out. The ground that caused mine was right in front of the drivers side battery. Clean the metal good!!!!!!
I was having basically the same problem with my f250... abs light on, no speedo, mine is a 6spd so i dont have a OD light, I eventually found a loose ground on my truck... right behind the drivers headlight... Cleaned it and hooked it back up and everything went back to normal.. Hopefully this helps you out...
A friend of mine borrowed the truck and had a buddy of his check for codes, the diagnosis came back as an Output Shaft Speed Sensor. I'm going to look into replacing that, has anybody done that, how bad is it? (pictures would be great if you have them).
