My ((ABS)) indicator came on stayed on for a while and then went out. This happened on two separate long trips, never on local short trips. Anyone have any idea whats going on? Thanks!
Without scanning for codes, it's a crap-shoot, unless you saw something else like the speedo going nuts, or the OD light flashing. Either of those symptoms point to a bad VSS in the rear differential.
But without any other symptoms, it's almost impossible to tell. It can be anything from water in a connection near the wheel, or a bad wheel bearing.
One thing, if the brake warning light comes on with the ABS light, that means the master cylinder is getting low on fluid.

Thanks Krewat
I stopped by Advanced Auto to have the codes dumped and it didn't produce any. Being that this has only happened twice in one year and both times I was pulling 27 foot Toy Hauler I'm not going to beat it up. I did check the speed sensor connection on top of the differential and although dry (no Goop) it was clean. I just wonder if Advanced Auto tool was worthy of the task and maybe I should have a better test done. What do you think? Thanks Paul K.
wouldnt hurt to have it checked again by another store, or even shop that can plug in. by the way, how are your brakes performing, have you replaced brake pads recently? when people take their trucks to a shop to get new pads, sometimes mechanics forget to bleed the lines before pulling apart the calipers, and not doing this can cause the fluid to be forced back into the lines, eventually screwing up the ABS sensor. just throwing that out there. its a good thing to warn people about

Good warning, but a little to late for me. That is what I did, but I didn't realize the bleed screw was rusted shut. I loosened it and clamped the calipers in. I have now replaced the hub, but then had an abs problem. It was a good excuse to get my own scanner, and have hopefully now fixed the problem.

I don't think the scanner they used would have been able to read the abs codes. It has to specifically stat it or you will not read them.
