2003 Expy XLT Audio System
Greetings All,
I purchased a 2003 Expedition XLT last weekend and I am enjoying it tremendously.
I have a few audio system questions. I have the 6 disc CD changer stereo.
1. How do you remove the door panels? I only noticed one screw at the bottom exterior part of the panels. I'm assuming there are more and I don't want to break anything taking this apart. Crutchfield says the 03 still uses 5x7's in the door panels. I would like to replace the factory ones with the polk 5x7's I took out of my ranger before trading it in.
2. Where is the best place to splice in hi/lo converters to add an amp and where is the best place to mount it?
3. It looks like there is a sub in the passenger side rear panel next to the third row but it doesn't sound like any sound is coming from it. There are vent holes and when I look inside with a flashlight it appears there is a sub there but, as I said, I can't hear any sound. Also, how do you open up this panel to get inside?
What have other 03 owners done to upgrade their stereos?

Pull out/up the pod that has the door locks and the window controls. Look UP in the hole, you will see the other screw. Also pull up on the whole door panel when you take it out, do not pull it straight out. The panel has hooks that set in the door.

Check the new Trukin mag. It has an audio upgrade for a Super Crew. Most of the install should be applicable to an Expy.
