At the cost of displaying my ignorance (my Ex is the first Ford I have even considered much less owned), what do the model designations mean, i.e. F-150, F-250 etc? Can you tell a gasser from a diesel by these model # s?? Guess I can look it up somewhere, but I'm sure someone will be happy to educate me. Thanks.
An F150 has a GVWR which is less than an F250, which is less than an F350, which is less than an F450, etc, etc.
An F150 is loosely called a half ton, an F250 a 3/4 ton, an F350 a 1 ton, etc. But the model numbers no longer refer to any actual ratings.
All except the F150 could be gas or diesel. Maybe someday we'll get a diesel F150.
And no discussion of models would be complete without reference to the trim levels. Beginning with the Plain Jane XL, then XLT, the FX4 (sometimes trim, sometimes just equipment), next up is Lariat, and King Ranch and Harley Davidson, and which is actually higher would be debatable. And there are some special trims thrown in too, like Cabela's Edition.
That would be cool if someone put a diesel in a 150!! lol That would be awesome!
It was announced for 2010, but then $5 diesel followed by a recession, and that idea was dropped. Personally I believe we will eventually see it. Yes, it would be very cool. But could hurt sales of F250's.

......so they still use PSD to designate diesels.....and this is the only way you can tell (except for the F-150). Super Duty means.......? Suppose you can also tell by engine size...like 6.0, 7.3, 6.4, 6.7...if you know which is D and which is G. Shouldn't a F-250 diesel be a D-250? or an F-250D? or would that be too easy.

That would be too easy. We have to keep the Dodge guys guessing, dontcha know.
Although I never really thought it was difficult the way it is now.
Superduty is just Ford's name for the line of trucks F250+.
Since '08 the Superduties aside from having the engine size displayed on the fender emblem they also are color coordinated IIRC red is for the Diesel and Black is for the Gas.
