the tractor's starter went out this weekend at the farm, leaving us stuck with 3 full wagons of corn that needed to be taken to the elevator....
pulled one at a time, 3 trips, the first load came in at a total of 19258lbs of corn. 2nd was the big one at 19663lbs!!! last one was only 18794 lol, that little 300 pulled like a mule, needed 4hi to get started in the yard, and on the gravel road to make it easier. she just grunted, and pulled and away we went at 10 mph for a couple miles to the elevator.
that being said, if the wagons didnt have their own brakes i wouldnt have attempted this with the little f150,
at the end of the day, if i didnt already love this little stump puller, have just that much more respect for it.
yeah, it was fun, but wasnt thinig about pics (wish i would have) was just trying to get the corn in so it didnt get ruined. tell ya what too, she sure sucked down a good amount of gas, about a 1/3rd of a tank in the 45-50 miles pulling lol.
newer trctor with hydrolic clutch pretty much an automatic trans lol but anyways unless its running, it wont enguage anything but neutral and park. love new stuff lol

Sounds a LITTLE like the Select-o-Speed semi-automatic trans that Ford had for many years in their tractors as an option. No pull-starting those things either...hell, if you wanted to just MOVE a disabled tractor, there was a traction disconnect lever under the seat...it was basically a splined sliding collar that literally connected the rear of the trans to the pinion gear. And the Select-o-Speed debuted in '59!
Definitely glad to hear the l'il ol' 300 saved the day...again!

Ah, sounds like a design flaw :-)
Been about 25 years since I've been on a real tractor so I don't know anything about 'em. Last one I drove had an 8 track stereo mounted in the cab!
Ahh...coincidentally enough, we've got a '98 New Holland 3415 with the 12 x 4 transmission...seems to me from reading through the shop manual that a hydrostatic trans was an option. Judging from the sound of it, I think I'm happy ours has a clutch!
Great story, not a big surprise that the ol tried and true tower of power saves the day again. I got my delivery truck (05 GMC 5500) stuck in a customers yard in some soft sand and used my 96 F150 300 six 5 speed to pull it out. They are pulling machines no doubt!
Nice.
This spring I hauled hay with my 300. Somewhere around 250 bales on 2 racks. I estimate about 15K, maybe a bit more. cruised right along in 3rd gear at 30MPH, no problem. Even had to go up a fairly steep hill coming into town- 2nd gear 20-25 MPH foot almost to the floor. The 300 was really talkin
Both times we baled and hauled hay this year I was planning to use the diesel, but there was always something wrong with it. I still don't have a rear bumper or hitch LOL.
