Now, didn't I tell you to shut up unless you have proof? With the shear amount of late 60's trucks made, there must be a bunch of the D4, D5, and D6 heads on eBay. Stop avoiding the issue and back yourselves up. Put down your Geritol smoothie and get searchin'. Hurry up; I just got a cell text from my girlfriend telling me she's pregnant again, and I may have to pack up and move.

Do you call "informative" being told that certain fictitious casting numbers really exist in the Real World? Wow, doesn't the truth actually count? Gonna believe what the old farts tell you no matter what? Why is nobody producing proof? Why do people think that an FTE post counts for age, experience, and reliability? What planet do you guys post from? Do have the answers to these questions and more? I mean, with a name like "freakboy", you must the sage of the forum.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to see if that abortion doctor I use all the time has been deported or what. Feel free to join the other drunks in trying to track down pictures of D4, D5, and D6 heads.

Thanks for the responses folks.

So, I guess what I was talking about was the 428CJ heads on my 390. Perhaps I shouldn't even mess with switching out the heads on this rebuild. Maybe that's a beast best left for another day.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what I should do for my engine rebuild then? What do I need to replace on my heads?

I am going with a pretty standard engine rebuild, maybe something with the cam, but mainly I want to focus on better components. Unless of course ya'll have some good suggestions like a fix for a common deficiency.

Anyways, this is just giving me a starting point.

Hey i'm here to learn and not be a jack ***. I'm not a know it all i'm not claiming to be one. And by informative i mean them sharing there information of what they know without bashing on each other and calling them "idiots" because what they know. Now how old are you? because you need to stop bashing and act your age. Just because you say something is right doesnt mean it is.

And i bet you if you look hard enough there are casting numbers they are not going to be big and blaring but they might be in a hard to see spot that is blocked by something.

If you want some good power and have it easy but do not care that you will suck down fuel, go with a new cam something with nice duration and lift.

And for your rebuild go with all the seals, new rings mabey. and lap your valves check lash and all that good stuff.

Part numbers vs. casting numbers

I think the problem here is that your typical Ford partsman is familar with PART numbers, which often have very different CASTING numbers. There may very well have been D3,D4, D5,&D6 part numbers for 360 & 390 heads during the last few years of FE production, however, I have never seen a FE cyl. head casting number that is newer than the common D2`s. I have a 76 390 4 barrel pickup truck engine in my F350, it has late 1975 date coded D2 heads.
For the average car/truck guy, the actual casting number on the head (or block, intake manifold, etc) is much more relevent than the part number. Most of these 30,40 year old, or older FE parts are no longer still in boxes, so the part number that would have been on a box has no significance. For example, I have 3 pairs of C8AE-H 390 heads. 1 pair has just the 8 bolt, up & down exh. manifold bolt pattern, 1 set has the 14 bolt, Fairlane/Mustang exh. pattern, often called "GT" heads, the 3rd are also 14 bolt, but with the addition of the Thermactor "smog pump" threaded holes in the exhaust ports. All 3 sets of heads would have been issued different PART numbers, due to the after casting machining that was performed by Ford, but they all have the same CASTING number. By the way, I am also older than the FE engine, and have been racing FE`s since the mid 70`s, for what thats worth.

Pay attention. I challenged NumberDummy to prove what he said and then BEAR called me a moron. So, address your whining accordingly.

Now, let's get down to logic. I cannot prove those castings don't exist without taking pictures of every FE head on Earth. That may take time away from popping my pimples and pulling my pants up above crotch level. The onus is upon the others to take ONE picture (or a link to one) of the castings in question, the casting stated by NumerDummy as existing and even having something to do with a smog pump (another laugh, but I digress). Got it? Education begins with edicts, but is completed through examination.

So, you losers (your word, note the correct spelling) cannot, as a wise and learned group, prove the existence of the castings as proclaimed, so you want to have me banned? Is that the kind of thinking the newbies need to enrich their hobby experience? Tell you what, show me the proof and I'll ban myself.

Were only thinking about banning you because you are rude. If you get insulted you do not need to retaliate. Always remember this "It take a bigger man to walk away" And its much more mature to deal with it or ignore it then to bash other people. You have bashed on other people many ways here. First is you call them idiots back, You bash on older people, remember your also going to be a old fart eventualy.

Now if you acctualy were nice people might take you more seriously.

I think you'll get the best advice if you mention what kind of budget you have, and specifically what kind of driving you intend to do with your truck. Also, does your machine shop have FE experience? What grade of gas you want to burn? The more you give, the more you get.

Man up and learn some. When somebody opens the can of worms first, you don't eat it down like a pansy. You throw a little whipped crap in the can and hand it back. Open your eyes and see the problem with the old boys club protecting their own even if they are all wrong (have you noticed that nobody has produced pics yet?) If you wanna be a typical Politically Correct sheepie, that's fine. Just don't dump those soggy flakes in my lap, thank you.

Last time I was here I took ND and his posse to school about '68 Ram Air cars. I proved them all wrong. You would think that they could remember more than a few weeks but, as mentioned, there's something in their beer.

Final lesson for now: "Old Fart" is actually a state of mind, irrelevant of age or post count. Cognizance can erode or expand over time. It's up to each individual to ascertain his own direction.
