DIY injectors

Looks like I will be doing some injector work real soon! I would like to rebuild them myself and learn something about how the powerstroke injection system works.

What kit have you guys installed and what was your experience ie easy, hard, send em in and buy new ones...

The only part that may be problimatic is the poppet valves. Maybe someone can chime in with there thoughts. The truck has 210k miles and needs an oring kit at the very least.

I don't need to make tractor pull power but I do like to move when I step on it.

Contact Jim at Rosewood Diesel. He does DIY kits and also rebuilds them. With 210k on them there will probably be parts that need to be replaced so you might want to send them in to be sure they are within spec...

Jim will give you good info though!

Jim is deffinetly the man that you want to talk to about the rebuild kits for these trucks, he really knows what he is talking about and he is a great guy to deal with. I don't know the clearence answers off hand but jims site has all of the information that you will ever need and it is explained in very high detail, his site is DIY-Injectors.com and then click on DIY Kits and scroll down to frequently asked questions and click on the links there.

guys he is having problems with his truck missing and stuff is the reason for concern on the poppets. also revs slow until 2500 rpm in a free rev is reason it needs o-rings at least. not sure if this would cause it to miss as well though.

Now to answer the question at hand. i have DIY stage 2's. had DIY stage 1's to start with though. i liked the stage 1's a lot. stepped up to the stage 2's and picked up almost a full second in the 1/4 mile. building them won't be the easiest thing you've ever done, but its not very hard either. its all just taking your time. that is a huge part of it, just take your time so you are absolutely positive everything is right in there. Jim sends plenty of instructions and photos to help you out as well. only do one injector at a time. don't try to take them all apart then put them all together.

How many miles were on your injectors when you did the rebuild? I am concerned with pulling the truck a part to do the rebuild and finding half the poppet valves out of spec. and needing to do some machining before I can put it back together. This wouldn't be a prolem if I was at home but I am away for the next few months and I can't have the truck down for a few weeks if the injectors need a bunch of machine work.

AS it currently stands I need orings at least. I wouldn't be suprised to find a few poppets out of spec.

I am mostly interested in what people did for injector and how they went about it so I can determine the best course of action for me. I don't have an IC set up yet and do not have the DP installed yet.

strokin'_tatsch thanks for all the help with figuring this out

I did my injectors this summer. There was about 140k on this set I used Rosewood Diesel's kit and was very happy. When I pulled my injectors apart I had no worn poppet valves but I did have 2 plunger assemblies that were worn. This lined up with a low rpm miss that tracked to # 4 cylinder during a contribution test. Getting machine work done where I was at was a pain so you might check to see if you want to get his worked intensifiers. All in all was very happy with how they are working.

it was in another thread titled mid to high rpm miss or something like that. check it out and let him know what you think man. i'm not sure whether the injectors would be worn or not, but it sounds like the o-rings are toast for sure, but if it was me i would do the injectors at the same time since he is pulling them anyways

i pulled my original injectors at 260k miles i believe. the stage 1 injectors i put in had god knows how many miles though. they were a buddy of mines injectors and i bought them from him. they ended up missing at all kinds of weird times so i replaced with stage 2's. both sets are from Rosewood though

if you have any concerns and cannot find it on the websight. email jim. he is good about getting back with customers.

All the info about rebuilding the injectors is on the websight.
Most of us here can answer a majority of the questions. but he knows all the technical stuff.
