fuel pump

I have a 1984 f-250 with some messed up wiring....thanks to sitting in a field for a few years and the mice moving in. It will run if I keep dumping gas down the carb, but the fuel pump seems to not be running.
My question is can I hot wire the pump with a on off switch just so I can get it running and up on a trailer, and if so what wire would be the "hot" wire coming out of the pump. I assume the red one....but I know what happens when I assume things. Thanks for your help.......Kevin

I am assuming this truck has a 460 since it has electric fuel pumps? If so, the rear pump is the brown/white wire, and the front pump is the red wire.

You can hot wire the pumps to get it on a trailer. If you want to try something easier, look at the starter relay. On the side that goes to the starter, there should be a smaller blue wire. Take this wire completely off the starter relay terminal, and touch it to the other side of the relay that goes to the battery +. If the switch has selected the correct pump, then the pump should run.

Thanks for the info....that does sound alot easier. The truck only has the front tank, PO must have removed the rear one at some time, hard to believe since the truck only has 85k verified miles on it, but man is it in rough shape.
And yes it is a 460....sorry forgot to include that before.
