Oil Pan?

Hello all,

I have a ? about putting a oil pan gasket and a rear main seal in. Is it better to pull the engine or put them on with the engine sill in the truck?

and which is the best permatex to seal a NP208 aluminum transfer case?

THANKS! In Advance

if you have a 1 piece rear main it might be worth pulling the engine, it would help to know what you're working on. I prefer permatex ultra black

Subscribing. I need to replace the rear main seal in my 460 ('86, I'm thinking 2-peice). I have already JBweld/fixed a pin hole sized rust hole on the oil pan... I wouldn't mind changing the oil pump/pickup, oil pan, rear main seal and all the core plugs; I just hate the thought of all that wrenching!

Oil Pan?

Thanks!

Yes I have the one piece seal it seems to be easier to pull the engine and pull the rear main cap to put the seal in. I was just wondering how everbody else does this.

Thanks Again!

I have never loosened the main cap to replace a 1 piece seal. If you dont need an oil pan gasket I think its easier to pull the trans.
I patched a pan with JB weld a couple years ago on a 7.3 PSD, still holdin'!

Are you sure the rear seal is leaking? One piece seals rarely leak.
