I think my engine isn't original, date codes?
so, I got a 1980 Bronco, apparently rebuilt motor. Date casting on the heads say 4L27.. doesn't that mean they would be made in a 19*4 year? like 74, 84, etc? I don't understand why I would have these heads in a 1980 Bronco.
below the head (or on it, not sure) on the driver's side it says 80 with a 22 under it, im sure 80 means year, right?
the intake's original color is a silver color like cast aluminum, the only stamping I can find on it is the firing order, which is the original 302 firing order.
The engine was painted blue, but rusty.. with aftermarket chrome valve covers..
I can't see the casting code in the rear of the block but the number '80' is sticking out off of a tab or lip or something, which again I assume means 1980 year.
does it just sound like during the rebuild they swapped the heads? am I decoding the date code incorrectly? I'm also not sure it's an original engine.. it feels like it's misfiring and im having trouble tracking down the problem, but at the same time I'm using all of this to learn a bit about this engine family.
