I have a 76 4X4 with trans code A. I also have a 78 2wd with trans code F. I want to take the engine out of the 78 and put in the 76. Will it bolt up since they are abviously different tranny's?
Do you know what engine is in each truck? That would probably make it easier to answer. I'm gonna say they are probalby not the same engine based on year.

The 76 has a 68 428 and the 78 is original 351M. I am wanting to put the 351 in the 76 so i can drive it this winter while I rebuild the 428.
Are they both 4spds? I don' t know what trans code A is trans code F is a Borg Warner T18. If trans code A is a NP435 then yes you can you will just have to swap the bellhousing too.

Yes, they are both 4 speeds. Based on that, I was proceeding, but when i crawled underneath the transmissions are visually different. That is why I asked.
