Chapter Notes, and Suggestions

My mentor, my guide, my friend...

You have always left me (with your posts) with a sense of humble amazement, but in this you have honestly floored me.

Though I have known (and have done so) people to offer help when someone near by is moving, I have never in my life seen anyone offer to go halfway across the continent to help someone pack up a house or apartment and back - and then offer to cross the rest and back as well. It boggles my mind!

I suppose in a way I consider myself a "lazybones" about a lot of things, but what you are offering is something so magnanimous it stuns me to the core...

Sometimes a relative may offer such a level of help or assistance, but for a friend to do so whom I have so far not met in person is something that I can honestly say both takes my breath away and brings tears of joy to my eyes.

I cannot see how I could say no, and I would also like to show you the base and the people with whom I have worked while you are here.

Though it seems I may be incurring a debt of conscience in accepting your aid (I have always struggled along on my own, by preference) it may be that it is one that I need in order to set the stage for my future.

And I have always tried to "consider the source" when seeking a teacher. I can think of no one more highly qualified...

It will be in November, about the middle of the month.

At times I have thought that the things which happen in my life were unexplainable unless God had decided to provide me with a wake-up call, or a reminder so as to open up my eyes again. I think this must be one of those times...

I look then forward to it, and meeting someone I have held in the highest regard for a long time - ever since the first posts of yours I saw, and I feel excitement at the thought of travelling the roads together!

In fact- the more I think on it, (unless I screw it up myself) it would be great fun!

So unless otherwise dictated by circumstances, let's consider it a reality.

I cannot think of words to tell you how much this means to me...

Some friends I met, out on the street
Never again I thought to meet
And those as well, who come and go
Whom I have seen since, on the road

But they with whom I have shared a life
And tarried with during times of strife
Or struggled alongside of, doing common things
Are the ones which pull at my heart's strings...

(one and only edit: I have copied this poem - written on the spot, and posted it at: www.itsonlywords.com
I have dedicated it to you)

- And I will help you to learn of the simple arts of making words with colors.

Bless you!

{Theologian looks around, fidgets and goes somewhat red}

"you're Welcome" seems a too little to say to such prose, but.......

{shucks!}

How exciting, I get to go somewhere.. Stipulations of course. No smoking anywhere near me - that is the only one. So I need some directions on how to get there, and what state it is in, and then we need to set a date. It will be fun.

Ah, Virginni, that is good, I do not need to be unarmed in that state. California however, is another matter.. I will have to have my just as lethat set of none banging weapons handy for there, and my pistol in the truck's safe.

I wonder if anything will be said about the safe I'll be hauling with me...
Oh well, at least one of the guns in it was bought in San Diego!

Besides, I also use it to store expensive software.

California has some really antisocial gun laws - if it in anyway resembles a military weapon, it is banned, if it shoots more than 10 rounds, it is banned, if it can be vaguely related to a street crime weapon it is banned.. etc etc..... So about half of my toys are banned in California.

Good thing they don't know what real firepower is.

By the time they start thinking about Benelli's, I'll be outta there...

Yup, they have banned all the high profile weapons and high capacity mags. I have a couple of low capacity 'hunting' weapons, legal in CA that will send a large 8mm magnum bullet for about a mile, and still have energy to kill when it got there.. those they did not ban. Shotguns traditionally are allowed in places where other weapons are not, which makes no sense at all. My most dangerous weapon is probably my shotgun.

I have often wondered if my most deadly weapon isn't my compound bow after all.

It's fairly accurate, makes a helluvva wound channel, and is virtually silent.

I also wonder if it's illegal to build a ballista using modern technology....

That is a big question. Should the ballista be regarded as a deadly weapon, and if so, would be regulated, but if one could regard it, successfully, as a historic appliance, or similar, then regulation would not apply. But, a huge but, If the construction was taking place in California, it would be illegal. I say that because most anything is illegal there, particularly the manufacture of anything dangerous. Wow, a broad sweeping statement

Now I want to go to the workshop and build me a giant catapult. (which, by statute, would be illegal in California)
