Towing Capacity
What's the towing capacity for the 2wd and 4wd. I'm thinking about buying one between '97 and 2000. My wife will drive it primarily but I will use it on the weekends to tow my mud truck some. The truck and trailer will come in around 7000lbs. Will this be too much for and Expedition?

Is your trailer going to be 7k or is that truck + trailer? meaning the trailer is only around 1500? 1500 lbs will be no prob for either expy. But, 7000 is way more than I would pull with one. I have pulled ~5000 and she is squirely, I guess its the short wheel base. Power was fine. But, I definitely did not like the way she handled. Thats what my f250 is for 
Though strictly speaking the 4x2 is rated for 5000 and 8300 loadleveled.

Trailer/Truck total will be approx. 7000lbs. I won't be towing over 100 miles and this will only be about a dozen times a year. The last sport utility I had was a Bronco and it towed well but it was kinda squirrelly too.

I've got a 99 EB 4x4 with the 3.73 rear and the towing capacity is 7900lbs. I tow a 31ft Sunnybrook travel trailer which weighs about 6700lbs dry - or about 7400lbs ready for travel. A good sway control is a must - depending on the length of your trailer, check out the dual-cam sway controls which has worked much better for me than the standard friction type. I've towed about 20k of the 73k miles with the truck and have had no problems.
