Hey guys/gals. I'm about to do this swap and wonder if you guys that have done this before can give some tips on making the job go smooth. Any special way to jack the truck up? Would it be better to jack the frame up and put it on jack stands, then jack on the axle housings to release tension on the springs? Any help would be great. Thanks.
It helps a lot to have the truck suspended by the frame and then you can use a floor jack to support the axle. I had my truck on a lift and used my floor jack for the axle to move it up and down to line up the holes for the spring pack. A big 'C' clamp helps for lining up the rear spring mount too...
I haven't done springs on a PSD, but have done them on enough other vehicles to recomend these three key ingredients.....
Might start spraying down some bolts/nuts with penetrating oil a week or so before hand as well, might make life a touch easier. We used to do that before we put lift kits on, it helped alot, but we didn't have a big shop liek it sounds you do.
CRS, CRS, what was that again? Oh yeah, now I remember.
What are you talking about?

Thanks, that is what I was planning on doing. Big C clamp is a good idea.

I just saw this thread and was gonna post, but it looks like Robin has ya covered.
It's really easy to remove the front springs once you have the front bumper off (4 bolts) and having a spare floor jack to help position the springs makes the job easier too.
A second set of hands isn't a must, but gosh darn they are a lot more helpeful than just helping your beer disappear.
you will love the x codes, just did them on mine several weeks ago. wow, what a difference!! actually nice to drive my Excursion again! i also put a hellwig swaybar on the rear and i swear it handles like a car now!!
