Hello all. This is my first post and I'm a proud new owner of a 1951 F-1. Its got the 226 inline 6 and the 4-speed manual... supposedly only 51,000 original miles (it's a bit worse for wear as it did sit in a field in ID for about 17 years before the previous owner found it and got it running). I'll post up some pictures in my profile when I get some better ones.
Anyhow, I did have a question for the more knowledgeable folks. I have heard a rumor that in 1952, Ford came out with a new 4-speed manual transmission for its trucks that had helical gears and syncromesh that would bolt right in on a 51 F-1... is this true? I keep seeing mention of a 4-speed synchro silent transmission for the larger F-series trucks and was curious if this rumor and those transmissions might be related. I know the light-duty 3-speed has synchro, but would really be interested if there was a 4-speed that did (as I live in San Francisco, not the suburbs, and while double-clutching is fun, it might get pretty old after a while on these hills).
Thanks to all for having this forum and I look forward to participating more as I start monkeying aroundd with my truck.
Thanks Dick C. Do you happen to know a parts number I should be looking for on the 52 synchro 4-speed? Also, is it the same as the "synchro-silent" 4-speed that I've seen referenced for the F-4s and above?
