BBF in a el camnio
yea you read it right, i want to slam a 460 based mill in a 1967 el camino. I dont like the generic sound of chevys but love the looks of the camino.
google and searching this forum didnt do justice, so im looking for some websites that can help me out. I was watching pass time on Speed and theres a guy who put a BBF in a camaro, so it can be done.
What do ya think? btw ford "muscle" cars are far and few in between my price range for a resto on a budget, so its gonna take a while. also the camino i can get for 500 and it needs interior and paint, no engine (like i wanted a chevy engine on my stand) or transmission.

lol nice post conanski, but a little too tacky in my perspective. i want a car that when its idling, you can tell its not just another big block 454 mill. I was thinking of being different since there is absence of an engine anyway. As for headers, motor mounts and such, its not rocket science. Also the Trick Flow a460 heads have chevy style exhaust ports that require a big block chevy style flange to mate a header, so anything is possible with a little imagination.

Yes, everything is getting "modernized," this is gonna be a looooong time resto, no real hurry i have the rest of my life ahead of me
I was thinking a forged, low compression engine with a 8-71 on top of it, or a 10-71, sky's the limit.
by the way, is there any automatic that isnt an E4OD that gives me more than 3 gears for a big block? I was looking at TCI's six speed, its only for GM models, but i can always buy an adapter plate.

Be sure to start with a 396/4-speed car. Better springs, and no messy column shift linkage and column due to the automatic.

it can be done . haven't seen the kid for a LONG time , i.e 20 or so , but he had a 76 trans am with a 428cj stuffed in it , then a 72 chevelle with a 429 scj in it . his reasoning was like yours .... to stun 'em or p.o the chevy rules crowd . needless to say he done both . as for me i usually pee'd on myself laughing watching the horrified looks of the bowtie brigade .............. he had a 73 deatsun pick 'em up too had a 455 olds in it , the drag link went through the oil pan !!!!!! he loved wierd stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm all for modding cars and trucks to suit your tastes and needs, but I'm not too crazy about this swap. Before I say why, please realize that I'm a die-hard Ford guy. But having said that, I can think of a ton of reasons NOT to do it:
A BB Chevy fits right in and makes a TON of horsepower and it can do it MUCH cheaper than a Ford BB.
It'll kill whatever value the Elky had to begin with, meaning once you do it, you better like it, 'cause you'll never sell it.
With all the fabrication needed to get exhaust and steering and cooling systems to function, you're going to have a lot of little issues and a lot of bigger, more costly ones and for what? To **** off people? Why not build a killer Ranchero?
Like it or not, the reason ANY engine runs well, whether it's a GM, Ford or Mopar is not due to any superior design or inherant ability, it's the builder. Nothing's gonna be worse than getting your doors blown off by a similar Elky with a built SBC, so you better make SURE you're packing enough ponies if you're gonna butcher that thing.
Also, you mention a slim budget. Nothing wrong with that, but please have a good solid plan to begin with and build the car "on paper" first. Get out the catalogs and figure in every single part, every, nut, bolt, every bit of welding rod, the paint, the wheels and tires you want, the headers, driveshaft, shocks, etc. Everything. Then add 70%, because that's gonna get you closer than what you think. Then take the amount of spare money you have every payday and divide it into the total. Now double that.That's the amount of time it'll take to finish your car. Still sound good? It's painful, but true.
