It's either a 302 or 351w. A 302 would have been the stock option but I think it looks a little wide, hard to judge in the pics, that would make it a 351w. I'm sure others can narrow it down between the 2. I would be able to tell in person but I would have to go with a 302 at second look.
im going to say 302. i say that because ,it appears to have 6 bolts holding down the valve covers. that tells you its either a 302 or a 351 windsor(same engine family). they did not put 351 windsors in trucks until the 80's. someone could have put a 351 windsor in it later as a swap, but it would not be original.
Check the firing order. A 302 fires differently than a 351 windsor. There are some exceptions to this, but if the motor sounds stock and does not lope, the chances are good that it is a stock motor and the above recommendation applies.
I have been told by others that it is a 351w but have been unable to get an exact answer, im sure its stock because the guy i bought it from said it was his dads and he wrecked on the drivers side, so they replaced the drivers door, drivers side fender and hood. He sais other than that they did nothing to it, he also told me it was a 351w, but the thing im having the hardest time believing is that no one has showed me how it is, whatever they claim it to be, i have been told you can pull the ignition coil off and look under the bracket for the engine code, but I was unable to find it.
I have never paid attention to this since I can normally spot the width difference in person. But I have been told that on a 302 you have to use a wrench to get to the lower thermostat housing bolt. Since a 351w is taller you can use a socket, rachet and extension. I change my vote to Windsor.
