Which bolt are you referring to? The drain plug or is it somewhere else on the engine? Chances are good that you can probably remove the bolt, spread a small amount of goop on the shaft just under the head, then give it time to set and replace it. This will typically create a good seal. Typically- again it depends on which bolt you're referring to.

use mechanical gauge to find real pressure.
^What he said. Don't be too concerned with the electrical gauge reading low- mine has read low for the 2 years I've owned it and actual pressure (read with a mechanical gauge) reads normal.

Being low on oil won't cause low oil pressure, unless it's so low that you're practically running the engine dry.
First off....you don't mention what truck we're talking about....engine....etc.
Sooooo, I'll assume that it is a 92-96 model and assuming that...
The oil pressure gauges on these trucks should not show anything other than mid gauge when the engine is running. This is because these gauges are not real oil pressure gauges. They are supposed to go to a dead center position if the oil pressure is about 7 lbs.
Anything other than that would indicate a bad sender, bad ground, or bad gauge.
Every once in awhile, I will start my truck and the gauge will not move. A quick jiggle of the wire at the pressure switch will restore order and it is fine till the next time. The wire is just a plug type boot that slides down ever a threaded rod on the switch.
I suspect that it is a ground issue, but you'll have to investigate that for yourself.
Go out to your truck start it up wait a min or two then pound on the dash above where the gauge his don't be afraid to give it a good beating. The gauge should move up a bit if it moves at all it is your gauge most of the time this is what it is.

This is not a Chevy Forum.......
a ayala.....Don't Beat on your dash!
Find the problem and fix it.....
Brett123......What kind of truck does your friend drive?? Does his gauge work the same as ours do on these trucks?......
Do not physically assault the truck!, its is not a GM or Dodge product.
A stream of loud profanities should be sufficient to get the gauge operating normally again.
Seriously...............The only way to know for certain is to temporarily or permanently install a mechanical oil press. gauge. Try cleaning the contact on the oil press. sender unit, it may be very oily/dirty and getting a bad signal.
Thats true it is a ford so I would not do that it might get worse then it is. Go and do that and I am sure you will get a quick answer to your problem but then yes use a mechanical gauge. You dont have to beat the hell out of it.
