Electrical Problem - Starter

I just replaced my starter on my 96 F-250 Crew Cab PowerStroke. When I went to hook the batteries up the #4 Relay (Trailer Tow Lamps) clicks and all four turn signals blink for about 15 seconds and then quits. My starter will not engage using the ignition switch but will engage (and engine will start) when crossing the posts at the starter solenoid inside front right fender. Any suggestions as to the problem? - I am totally baffled and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you starter has the spade or flat type terminal on it that the wiring plugs into, replace it will a ring terminal directly attached to the starter. That is known for having a bad connection and then the starter will not work.

does this truck by chance have or had a security system installed? sounds like the system is armed and in anti-theft mode. if its a factory system just lock all doors and then unlock them with the keyfob or original ignition key. we get this all the time at the parts store after installing a battery, stupid anti-theft.

Wolfsmurf: I thank you for the tip. It worked and the truck is running again. My truck has a Mirage Model M alarm system...didn't know that. But the problem now is that if I leave the doors closed for a while and then open the drivers door the lights are blinking again and I need to hit the "D" on the remote to reset or disable the alarm. I found a small toggle switch and the black programming button underneath the dash but I never had to disarm the alarm before to get it started. I've done everything from opening the locked door with the key to cycling the lock and unlock with the remote and still the system goes into anti-theft mode. Any other suggestions? So far you have helped a lot...someday I hope I can return the favor! Thanks again, DR
