I need Voltage regulator help
Can anybody tell me if a Borge Warner r295 regulator will work on my 1977 f150. It seems to only go up to 1976 and then 80 to 86 on trucks but goes up further on cars from what I read. I have this brand new one and would like to use it if I can.
Thank you

Ford used basically the same alternator regulator from 1963 thru 1981. 1963/64 T-Bird's had alternators, the rest of the vehicles got them in 1965.
In 1982, Ford replaced the previous alternator regulators (C3SZ10316B replaced by D4TZ10316A) with a solid state electronic type > >
Originally this was E2PZ10316A. In 1980, Ford replaced E2PZ10316A with: FOPZ10316A (Motorcraft GR540B). These are the current Ford & Motorcraft part numbers.
This new style alternator regulator is EZ to spot, because it has a flat aluminum cover that is embossed MOTORCRAFT/ELECTRONIC, different than the raised painted covers used previously.
Even though the regulator is now an electronic, the exact same wiring plug is used to connect to it.
In other words, the regulator changed, but nothing else did.
If the Borg Warner R295 regulator is compatible to E2PZ10316A/FOPZ10316A electronic or C3SZ10316B/D4TZ10316A...then it will work.
The FOPZ regulator was used thru the 1990's on some cars/trucks.
Yes this is the raised type and was originally purchased for an 86 Crown Vic. I think. According to what I read I was used from 65 up, execpt I could not find a truck ap. after 76. But the car ap,s kept on going. I will check your part #,s to see if I cant cross ref them. But I feel better then ever that when I fire it up It should be charging. I wont be firing for a couple weeks though.
Thank you

C3SZ10316B was used 1963/73, the cover was black, had an Auto-Lite decal on it.
D4TZ10316A replaced C3SZ10316B in 1974. The cover was blue, had a yellow Motorcraft decal on it.
E2PZ10316A .. electronic regulator replaced D4TZ10316A in 1982. FOPZ10316A replaced E2PZ10316A in 1990.
Any Ford vehicle sold new after 1981 would have come with this type of electronic regulator...except those that had the regulator installed on the alternator itself.
So if the regulator was for an 86 Crown, and I use your part numbers as a guide. Then this should be fine in a 77 truck harness. I am not running any hi amp. alt. setup This Borg warner r 295 has all the same terminal markings also.
