EGR Flow
My check engine light came on a while back, the code tuned out to be egr flow insuffient. I replaced the DPFE sensor and unhooked the battery cable. Light came back on after about 30 miles. I replace the EGR Valve and removed the tube that goes from the egr valve to the exhaust and made sure it was clean, unhooked the battery cable again and 30 miles later check engine light is back on and the code still shows EGR Flow Insuffient. NOW WHAT????
You 'invested' in two parts you may not have needed.
Finding out how the system works then doing some testing would have saved you money and found the issue.
401 code failure is the result of a routine test set up by the computer to test EGR flow.
The DPFE is the test sensor that reports the results.
You have the DPFE, vacuum gate, EGR valve, test tube, hoses, electrical circuit, and blockage, all as possible faults.
Good luck.
Another code was Spark plugs not firing.
After a month of substituting it turned out to be the Spark plug wire ends.
I replaced those ends, had the codes reset and its been two days and no codes so far.
