ESOF issue

ESOF issue
My truck makes a noise when I turn the key to the ON position to let the glow plugs warm up. It sounds like there is a small compressor down in the left front wheel well. It only happens when my truck has not been driven for several hours. If I start the truck, then shut it off, then start it again, it does not happen. This is the same noise that I heard the other night when I shifted the truck to 4wd then back to 2wd. I was thinking that it was the ESOF, but I really don't understand how that works. Could it be losing air pressure? I really don't know the first thing about this, but I know it makes the sound when I start the truck in the morning and it makes it when I get off work. Thanks for the help.

Ok, thanks. That is exactly what it sounds like. An electric compressor, or in this case, vacuum pump. I appreciate the quick response. Mine did not used to do this, so I think I may be losing vacuum somwhere. Thanks again.
