Went to the local pull a part junk yard and found an old 7.3 diesel F350.
Pulled the oil cooler and injector pump with lines took them to the cash register and got charged $20 out the door.
Not only was it a great deal but also good practice.
Note to anyone as dumb as me once you remove all the coolant, oil and then remove the bolts from the oil cooler it is a good idea to use a long ply bar and not be under the cooler when it pulls away from the engine block.
The more valueable of the two is by far the oil cooler. After blowing a hole in the oil cooler header on my 85 F250 (sold) I made it a point to locate and get in hand a back up oil cooler for my 93 F350. Good find!
The local U pull yard has about 7 IDI trucks and this weekend is 20% off so I am going to grab the 5 speed and t case from one and for only 170.00 it is worth it.
$175 for a ZF5 and transfer case is a damn good deal!
I bought my 93 F350 with the ZF5 tranny case tail snapped off.The previous owner did some work and didn't bolt the tranny mounts correctly and the transfer case snapped the tail flange off.I pai $300 for a used tranny.
My oil cooler has a slight leak and I wanted a core to rebuild so the truck would not be down long in the event something went wrong.
