I just recently got a new truck (07 f-250 diesel) and the reverse sensors don't work. It says theyre on when i start the truck up and when i put it in drive, but if theyre not i can just push the button and they turn on...HOWEVER, as soon as i put it in reverse, it turns off, and i cannot turn them back on.
I have sprayed each connection with electrical contact cleaner and blew them clean, however that did not help.
Yes, they should be on automatically when you put it in reverse, and then the button would turn it off. It is annoying, so possibly the previous owner rewired it?
Dumb question, but how are you determining if they are on or off?
Do this at your own risk, but either get a helper, or park on a level surface with the ebrake on(maybe even chock the wheels for more safety), turn the ignition on(don't start the truck) and put it in reverse. Walk behind the truck, does it start beeping. There are plenty of other ways to test, but all have there dangers, like backing up closely to your garage door, or anything else for that matter.
If not I'd pull the switch out, and see if there are any modifications to the wiring. Is it still under warranty? Take it to the dealer then.
I thought the previous owner may have disconnected it or something, but i followed/looked at the connection and everything is normal. I am determining weather they work or not by just reversing close to something, plus the botton says "OFF".
I have had my truck a year now and they work but I still don't trust them, I use my mirrors as well with the camper top and all, but they seem to be accurate.
if memory serves me right if one of them goes bad the whole system stops working...
course figuring out which sensor is bad can be a hassle without the right testing equipment... might be time to hit the dealer im afraid...
Ya, i have a feeling that it's the sensor on the right side. The bumper seems to be pushed in/ down a little bit on the right side, and the one sensor is pointing up, and the rest are pointing straight back.
Does anyone know of an easy way to test for a dead sensor?
I started on the passenger side and cut out the sensor and with crimp on disconnecting connectors, replaced the original sensor with one of the ebay set.
When the first replacement didn't work, I reinstalled the original sensor and moved onto the next sensor, swapping out again with the one from the ebay set.
The third original sensor was bad, and I left in the replacement from ebay.
This still leaves me replacement sensors for the future.
I think this would not work if two sensor go out at the same time , if one of the ebay sensors was also bad.
