Greetings all!!!
I have a 79 F100 with a 302, auto trany, single exhaust. It's about as basic as it gets. Anyway, I was considering installing dual exhaust. Can this be done without causing a stir with the California emissions folks? I would like to advoid being tagged as a gross poluter or something to that effect.
I would appreciate the help!!!
I didn't want you to think your question was being ignored. I run dual exhaust on my 74 with a 390 but I know emissions started becoming pretty sticky during the late 70's and early 80's. My truck passes smog just fine with the duals but it's been with me so long, I can't remember if it ever had a 2-1 collector on there. My pipes go all the way to the manifolds seperately. I hope you find out what you need to know. You might want to give a reputable exhast installer a call and ask them. That or your local smog referee (oh the horror!).
My 1980 F350, 351M/4-speed has true dual exhaust (manifold to tailpipe) and it appears the truck has passed smog since new. It's due now with the transfer and I don't anticipate any problem once the engine is freshened up. Thanks!
well, that's one reason I went with one of the older f100's... I definitely wanted duals...
Currently I have a 360 with Hedman Hedders and 3" pipes with an "H" tube just prior to running thru a pair of Flowmaster 40 Series dumping out just in front of the rear tires, Nascar style...
While the big block provides plenty of umph, it sadly lacks in the gas mileage department. So I'm about to embark on a major swap to a five liter with an AOD tranny... I will, however, be keeping the duals...
The truck had a 429 with a C6 etc....and it was choked down with the small Y pipe and the 2.25 inch exhaust...
I was always told to make the system appear stock....if going dual exhaust
stay close to the original pipe diameter as possible....if switching to dual exhaust, use dual cat conveters....
if going 2.5 inch diameter, Use a cross over pipe to quiet things a bit....
Anyhow...I went with dual 2.5 inch and it was fine....
Another guy went in with 3 inch and they flat out told him it failed the visual inspection....
