Heater core

i'm getting ready to replace my heater core and just had a couple questions. Do you have to pull the whole blower and everything? Also, is there and block drains i can pull to drain my block, i have flushed the antifreeze a bunch but just can't get the junk out of the block. Thanks for the help pics would be great.

By the way its a 93 ranger 4.0

Down by the glove box in the dash, there is a cover (trim panel) you can remove to let you get to the other small cover on the bottom of the heater box where the heater core sits. The first cover has a fuzzy outside to it and is held in place by plastic push clips/pins. The cover on the heater box is held in place by screws and is contoured to the heater box. Once you have the two hoses removed from the core you should be able to reach in the heater box, pull in the top part of the core to make the tubes clear the firewall and bring it down and out. Not a real big job at all. The core will still have antifreeze in it so you could put something on the floor to catch whatever might spill out as you remove it unless you have something to plug the tubes. It was in 95 when they changed the dash design that you have to remove more of the dash to get the heater core out. No real block drain on the stock engine unless someone put one in there. Closest you could get to it is to just remove the lower radiator hose.
