Nitrogen filled shocks take a little extra effort because they want to extend themselves. They usually come with a wire on them so they stay compressed. For nitrogen filled front shocks I bolt the bottom mount first then cut the wire and let the bolt on the top of the shock shoot through the mounting hole. The mounting bolts on nitrogen filled rear shocks are usually both horizontally aligned. So I bolt the top mount first and then it's easier to hold onto the bottom part of the shock to compress it while I line up the bolt to the bottom mount.
