Ignition control module question

Have 88 BII, 2.9ltr. Got a new Ignition Control Module and messed around and lost the little grease packet that comes with it. Ya supposed to spread it it out over the back of the thing to help dissipate the heat. Question: Will Valvoline Wheel Bearing Grease work or does it absolutely have to be DIELECTRIC TYPE GREASE? If not that means i gotta drive 20 miles back to town as i live out in the "sticks". THANKS!!!

No, it will not work. You can substitute di-electrical grease (silver stuff) for computers if you have it around. The idea is it fills all the unseen pores and air spaces and does not conduct electrical currents while conducting heat. It is designed so it does not wash out.

That's what i was afraid of. Truck will still run but after warming up and driving bout 5 miles it develops a dead "miss". Checked the alternator and regulator and battery and they're o.k., Put a new coil on that i had so i'm certain it's the ignition module, will go to town Friday and find some of that Grease. Thanks Guys!!!

I had an intermittant problem on my 88 BII 2.9 where it would just quit - no sputtering, no bucking, just dead right now. I have and 89 Ranger, so was swapping parts (like the module, etc) back and forth trying to figure it out. When I'd last put in new plugs, the wires looked fine so left them for another year. One night when it was actually running, I happened to have the hood up outside the garage in the dark. The coil wire was brushing up against the a/c hose. Spark from the coil wire was shorting out from a tiny little wear mark on the wire thru a tiny little wear mark on the a/c hose to the wire mesh reinforcing in the hose.
