Ignition module question

Have 88 BII, 2.9ltr. Got a new Ignition Control Module and messed around and lost the little grease packet that comes with it. Ya supposed to spread it it out over the back of the thing to help dissipate the heat. Question: Will Valvoline Wheel Bearing Grease work or does it absolutely have to be DIELECTRIC TYPE GREASE? If not that means i gotta drive 20 miles back to town as i live out in the "sticks". THANKS!!!

It's not even dielectric grease, don't let them sell you that. It should be a white cream that is called heat sink compound. The clear dielectric grease will not work, and no other type grease will work either. If you don't have or can't get the right grease, smear as much as you can from the old module onto the new one, and if the old grease has oozed out around the dist mount, try to smear it back in the middle, though it may be too dirty to use.

If you do not use the correct type grease, your module life will be shortened.

That's what i was afraid of. Truck will still run but after warming up and driving bout 5 miles it develops a dead "miss". Checked the alternator and regulator and battery and they're o.k., Put a new coil on that i had so i'm certain it's the ignition module, will go to town Friday and find some of that Grease. Thanks Guys!!!

You should be able to find heat sink compound at a well stocked Radio Shack. A tiny tube should be enough for you and several friends for the rest of your lives. It also pays to use a little rubbing alcohol to clean the surface on the distributor because it can dry into lumps and you want a good flat surface to mount the module on. Only put enough on to make the surface white, it doesn't take much. use a razor blade or credit card to spread it.
