Thumbs up Howdy Folks!

I've been lurking a lot here lately and I've learned quite a bit about my truck. I just wanted to drop in to say "Thanks".

I have an '02 F-350 CC, SRW, longbed. Bone stock. The truck has never given me much trouble, besides the usual CPS, etc. Little stuff. But with 193k on the clock, she's starting to need a little more attention these days.

I can't find any independant shops around here who turn wrenches on PSDs. A couple have told me on the phone, "Boy, if you had a Cummins I could hook you up. I got your guy." I guess they break down more often? I've wrenched on my fair share of Clevelands and small block Chevys but I never wanted to take the time to get edumacated on the 7.3. So, I've always taken it to the dealer. My local dealer is pretty organized and competent and I've never had a problem with them beyond their outrageous prices.

The truck started running like crap and throwing codes. Based on what I've read here, I diagnosed a case of the dreaded UVCH disease. I could see the insulation coming off the wires on the external harness clip on the passenger's side. The dealer told me over the phone that it was "an expensive repair." I politely thanked them and hung up. Considering that they didn't blink when they charged me over $900 to replace the water pump a few weeks ago, I didn't even want to know what they considered to be "expensive."

So, I ordered some parts, rolled up my sleeves, and fixed it myself. Took me about 8 hrs. over the course of a couple of afternoons. I've already gotten A.E. from Rifraff. The next time the old girl starts buckin' and rearin' I'm gonna be loaded for bear. And I have a 6637 kit on the way from Riffraff as well. The little missus ain't the only one PMSing in this house!

I'm sure I'll be back as soon as I get a chance to start playing with my new toys. Thanks again!

Welcome to the family Kent. As for the PMSing, watch out, the more you do the worse it gets........or the better it gets.......just depends on your point of view I guess.

Welcome to FTE. You got her all fixed up without even posting a question-great job!!!
But you probably could have fixed the uvch just doing the 50 cent mod or was your harness roasted?

Welcome and congrats on the job well done. I know how you feel, wants that PMS syndrome kicks in it is hard to turn off. These motors are really not that bad to work on. I have been working some under tthe hood on my brothers 97 6.5 diesel, now that is a pain in the @%#. Continue having fun

AGREED!!! My 88 F350 7.3 was my first... now I have my 99 7.3 and a 96 Passat TDI, and I'm DROOLING over the idea of one day getting my hands on an Outback diesel. Friggin' things get 41mpg!! The Outback would never replace the truck, but on tiny trails where Nyx can't fit...

Congrats on saving yourself the $$$ and getting it done yourself. Do yourself a favor though... don't EVER look back at those service invoices from the dealer...

Yeah, the harness was toasted where it plugs into the VC on the passengers's side. I went ahead and replaced the gaskets and glow plugs since I'd already bought the parts, but all the stuff under the VC looked fine, strangely enough. I had bought a repair kit which included replacement plugs with pigtails. I just cut the wires off the old plug one at a time so I wouldn't get 'em mixed up and spliced in the new connector using the barrel crimp connectors like you can get anywhere. Covered it all up with some of that flexible plastic split loom stuff. It's working great so far.

I may have to block you, man. That avatar is killing me.

I live in a small town about 40 mi. NE of Tampa. I didn't realize my location wasn't showing and I changed my public profile. Thanks for the heads up.
