Kohler rant
I have a new Cub Cadet with a Kohler Courage engine. I've had K series Kohlers for years, and they're great. The Courage seems fine, but I have a little issue with it.
The carb and fuel pump are behind the base of the air cleaner. (you can access the carb adjustments OK). In the manual it says to not remove the air cleaner base unless you have to.
What the bleep. The base is held in place by a couple of nuts. But!, for some unknown reason, you also have to take out the stud that aligns the carburetor. Also, if you take off the base, you have to readjust the throttle settings.
Kohler has been making good engines for years -- usually there's a reason for a difficult disassembly . In this case, I can only think that they did it for cost. Otherwise, they would have made removing the air cleaner base the simple job that you'd think it would be.
I was looking at snow-blowers the other day and the motors have no name at all on them. Gee, I wonder where they were made?
